Readathon Survival Kit

Tips For The A.A. Readathon

Since the readathon is in 2 days I thought I would put together a list on how to prepare for a readathon and how to possibly exceed in a readathon.  It's important that you have all of your supplies ready so that on June 1st  you're not rushing around Barnes and Noble trying to find a book you can read!
This survival kit is not just comprised of physical things you  may need, but also tips on how to prepare your mind for all the reading you're about to do.

How To Prepare

1. Gather Your Books
Make sure you have all of your books on hand ready to be read. You may want to put them on your nightstand or close to where ever you usually do your reading for easier access.

2. Let Everyone Know
Let your friends and family know ahead of time that you'll be contributing most of your time to reading so they know not to interrupt you when you're in the zone. Also, let everyone know on your blog, twitter, tumblr etc. so they can cheer you on and perhaps join you.

3. Snacks, and Lots of 'Em
You'll see why I say this in step 2 of  how to exceed. Go to the store and get some of your guilty pleasure snacks. Mine are cashews and these really yummy mustard pretzel bites that I can't remember the name of. Stock up your kitchen with your favorite snacks and reserve them for when the read-a-thon starts. I don't really have a particular reason for this step but the yummy foods may get you more pumped about the readathon and perhaps can be your reward when you finish a book.
You'll also want to stock up on coffee, teas, and energy drinks. Again, you'll see why in How To Exceed.

How To Exceed

1. Make Time
I know a lot of people don't do readathons because they say that they don't have "enough time". Well make time! Stop watching Desperate Housewives and pick up a book! Keep a book in your car in case you get stuck in traffic. If you go to school, read a chapter or two at lunch. And if you're really desperate, read while going to the bathroom (just kidding). Even though you may SAY you don't have the time, I bet there's one part of your busy day where you're not doing anything important. You don't have to stay up all night when you're really tired just to participate in the readathon. Find that gap in your day when you DO have time.

2. COFFFEEEEE!!!!!
If step one doesn't work, fill up on caffeine.

4. Don't Over Think It And Don't Give Up
This isn't a competition, and it isn't the end of the world if you don't read as many books as you hoped for. I'm planning on reading 10 books but I might end up only reading 5. The point of any readathon is just to have fun and to maybe meet some new people online that are also doing the readathon. Don't stress yourself out. If you don't want to read a lot of big chapter books, I would suggest getting some graphic novels or mangas out of the library.

5. Have Fun
Enjoy this crazy long readathon and have fun with it!!

Well, that's it! I would love to know your plans for the readathon so feel free to leave a comment letting me know what you'll be reading!
